The monitored works comprised the hand excavation of a trench measuring 6.5 m in length, 0.60 m in width and 1 m in depth extending north from the wall of the manor. The results of the watching brief were consistent with the results of excavation from the mitigation and evaluation. The watching brief demonstrated that pockets of archaeological preservation were present across the site, with remains from the early- and late-19th century represented.

The remains of two well-preserved mid- to late-19th century cementation furnaces were recorded. The programme comprised archaeological excavation of two areas: Spring Grove corn mill centred on NGR 429996 394361 and Spring Grove paper mill centred on NGR 430163 394079. The two areas were excavated to examine the surviving remains of the two mill complexes which were the site of Spring Grove corn mill and Spring Grove paper mill from 1834 onwards (Northern Archaeological Associates 2016).
