Abstract

The results have demonstrated that there are two distinct Pleistocene terrace deposits within the study area. An upper terrace, original called the Dunbridge Unit, can with confidence be related to the Belbin Stage, which is supported by the high number of Palaeolithic finds recovered from it. A lower terrace, original called the Barley Hill Unit, can be related to the Mottisfont Stage. The results of the deposit modelling allow the terrace stratigraphy from Dunbridge to be related to the established schemes within the River Test and Solent Basin.
