Abstract

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to undertake archaeological investigations along the route of the Viking Link Interconnector Onshore Scheme in Lincolnshire. The Interconnector is a 1400 MW high voltage electricity cable and associated infrastructure that connects the electricity grids of the UK and Denmark. The 67 km– long onshore route has been divided into three zones: Zone 1 encompasses the Lincolnshire coastal marsh and plain, Zone 2 crosses the southern part of the Lincolnshire Wolds, and Zone 3 equates to the fenland portion of the scheme.

This post-excavation assessment summarises the results from the 38 set-piece excavation areas and two strip and map areas investigated within Zones 2 and 3. This document also provides a brief summary of the results of the evaluation trenching in Zone 2 which, unlike the evaluation trenching results in Zone 3, have not previously been disseminated.
