Abstract

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned to undertake an archaeological evaluation of five field parcels, located in the Den, Dalry.

The evaluation at The Den, Dalry identified only post-medieval and modern features, relating either to the 19th century occupation along Auchengree Road, mineral extraction at the western end of the proposed route or to rig and furrow agricultural techniques. All of the recorded archaeological features correlates well with the 1857 1:2,500 OS map of the site.

No environmental samples were recovered from the site due to the limited nature of the archaeological resource. Eight of the trenches at Dalry produced a grand total of 62 sherds of pottery, 29 pieces of bottle and window glass, 2 pieces of animal bone and 1 piece of leather.
