Abstract

Following the excavation of a number of trenches, it became clear that there was no Romano-British fortlet at Warburton, and that the feature identified as ‘Punic’ defensive ditch was in fact the remains of an old hedgerow which had been removed
in the last quarter of the 19th century. The evaluation revealed no evidence for settlement of any kind from the Romano-British period, but was able to show that the land use of the fields around Moss Brow Farm had remained unchanged possibly since the Romano-British period. The land was divided into fields at that time and remains as fields today.
