Land south west of West Farm, Knook - Archaeological Watching Brief Report
Published: 2019-03-31
Subjects: Medieval
One pit was uncovered in the southern end of the site and one north-east to south-west orientated ditch was identified in the centre of the site. The ditch was observed in three trenches and is the same feature as that observed in an earlier phase of archaeological works, during the archaeological trial trench evaluation of the site. The pit contained medieval coarseware pottery and one [...]
Bishops Mill, The Maltings, Salisbury, Wiltshire - Historic Building Report and Archaeological Watching Brief Report
Published: 2019-03-01
Subjects: 20th Century, Post Medieval
No evidence was found of significant archaeological remains, although the majority of the works were relatively shallow in depth. The widespread made ground deposits throughout the site confirm that the late 19th and 20th century alterations to the site have potentially and effectively masked any earlier features or deposits.
Long Marston to Stratford Rising Main - Post-excavation Assessment
Published: 2019-02-28
Subjects: Iron Age, Post Medieval, Romano-British
The earliest archaeological features exposed in the excavation included an area of hollows associated with possible prehistoric burnt mounds. Two parallel pit alignments and a cluster of pits provided evidence for Iron Age settlement activity. Several pits and ditches indicated Romano- British agricultural and settlement activity, with the main focus of occupation in the late 2nd century, but [...]
Corunna Barracks, Ludgershall, Wiltshire - Post-excavation Assessment
Published: 2018-12-31
Subjects: Iron Age, Romano-British
Despite widespread horizontal truncation and occasional areas of more intense modern disturbance, a limited range and number of archaeological features were identified, excavated and recorded during the fieldwork. These related to two distinct phases of activity. The earliest of these phases was evidenced in the form of a substantial late prehistoric ditch. The date and function of the ditch [...]

11 Lawn Road, Southampton, Hampshire - Archaeological Watching Brief Report
Published: 2018-11-01
Subjects: 20th Century, Post Medieval
In situ brickearth deposits were noted across the Site, overlying gravel. A single flint flake was the only pre-18th-century find. However, the watching brief located a buried land surface containing bricks in the north of what was probably a garden associated with Portswood House, built in 1776 and demolished in 1852. The ground surface was subsequently raised by up to 1.2 m in the north of the [...]
Area A3, Castleward Phase 2, Derby - Post-excavation Assessment
Published: 2018-10-31
Subjects: 20th Century, Post Medieval
The work exposed the remnants of terraced housing comprising foundations, floor surfaces and other structural remains. To the rear of the houses, yard surfaces, outside toilets, drains and garden/property boundary walls were recorded. The housing was built, seemingly as three separate blocks, in the mid-19th century and was demolished in the early 1970s. Following demolition the local roads were [...]
Mayfield Court, 52-56 West Street, Sheffield, South Yorkshire - Archaeological Investigations Report
Published: 2018-08-31
Subjects: Post Medieval
The earliest evidence dates from the 18th century when a series of quarry pits were excavated on the fringes of the expanding settlement of Sheffield. The results of the archaeological investigations are consistent with the existing cartographic and historical evidence for the use of the Site.
Heathfield Nook Road, Harpur Hill - Archaeological Investigations Report
Published: 2018-08-31
Subjects: Undated / No Archaeology Recorded
Of the 36 excavated test pits, five contained archaeological finds, with a slight concentration in the northern part of the sampled area. However, no features were noted. Trenches 1 and 2 intercepted a limestone quarry pit, seemingly backfilled in or shortly after the late 19th/early 20th century, whereas trench 3 contained no evidence of an archaeological nature, with no further remains [...]
214 Bassett Green Road, Southampton - Archaeological Watching Brief Report
Published: 2018-08-01
Subjects: Undated / No Archaeology Recorded
A series of natural clay and gravel layers were observed within the trenches, directly overlain by a layer of made ground with a high percentage of 20th century building debris as inclusions. This debris was resultant from the demolition of the previous building that occupied the Site. This lack of archaeological features and deposits may be due to previous development undertaken at the Site, [...]
Oughtibridge Mill, Sheffield - Post-excavation Assessment
Published: 2018-07-31
Subjects: Post Medieval
The programme comprised archaeological excavation of two areas: Spring Grove corn mill centred on NGR 429996 394361 and Spring Grove paper mill centred on NGR 430163 394079. The two areas were excavated to examine the surviving remains of the two mill complexes which were the site of Spring Grove corn mill and Spring Grove paper mill from 1834 onwards (Northern Archaeological Associates 2016).
