Joseph Chamberlain College Birmingham - Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment

Wessex Archaeology

Published: 2003-12-01
Subjects: Desk-Based Assessment

Very little was noted either from the SMR data or through the map regression exercise, with only Roman stray finds of coins and Post-medieval structural evidence in the environs of the Site. Impact from the construction of the retail complex will be slight due to the intention to surcharge the present land levels and then discretely pile through the raised level.

Suffolk House, George Street London Borough of Croydon - Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment

Wessex Archaeology

Published: 2003-12-01
Subjects: Desk-Based Assessment

Prehistoric activity from all periods is attested in this area of Croydon. Roman and medieval settlement and cemeteries appear to be concentrated to the south and west of Suffolk House; activity in the area of the Site, especially in the medieval period, is likely to have been rural in character and not have produced significant archaeological remains. In the Post-medieval period development was [...]

The desk based assessment has demonstrated that there is a low potential for the survival of Palaeolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic material on the Site. The likelihood for Iron Age, Roman and Post-Roman Dark Age material is considered to be moderate to low. The greatest potential for archaeological remains on the Site lies in the medieval, Postmedieval and modern periods. The Site lay within [...]

LEC Refrigeration Site, Shripney Rd Bognor Regis, West Sussex - Archaeological Desk-Based Assessment

Wessex Archaeology

Published: 2003-11-01
Subjects: Desk-Based Assessment

The Desk-Based Assessment has demonstrated that there is a low potential for the survival of Palaeolithic deposits in the form of a ‘raised beach’ on the Site. Whilst the potential for the presence of these deposits is low, their importance requires a scheme for mitigating the possible effects of this mitigation. We cannot be certain, however, that these deposits have not suffered significant [...]

The archaeological evaluation was successful in achieving the aims and objectives of the project. The geophysical survey produced results of sufficient clarity to enable an interpretative plan of part of the Brigittine abbey to be proposed. The eight trenches demonstrated the validity of much of the geophysical survey results and provided detail on the location, layout and extent of the abbey [...]
